A traditional Slow Match for use with Flint and Steel fire making made from Aluminium. Ideal for Bushcraft, Survival enthusiasts, pioneers and re-enactors. who want to continue the art of traditional fire lighting. For 100s of years people would have used a slow match to light their Cannons, Muskets, Tapers etc This kit also contains a safety candle and 10 x hand cut sulphur spills plus instructions.This precision made Aluminium Slow Match has been made exclusivley for us at Beaver Bushcraft by PJS Engineering and is the perfect companion for tradaitional Flint & Steel. 

It was said that prisoners of war used to make slow matches out of bone and apparently the tradition is still carried on to day in some prisons! Slow matches work well with traditional Flint & Steel. Ideal for budding Pioneers, Larps, Cosplayers, Bushcrafters,Survivalists, pipe smokers.  

The Slow Match Cord must be a tight fit in the Slow Match Tube if an ember is to be extinguished after use, it also needs to be a tight enough fit to prevent the cord from slipping out of the tube under its own weigh. With this in mind the snug fit can cause the cord to bunch – or bottle neck, if you will - up as it is pushed up the tube. The best method to enable you to move the Cord up and down the tube is to pinch the cord between your thumb and fore finger in your left-hand (if you are right-handed) and the Slow match in your right-hand and then twist the slow match on to the cord to move it up the slow match tube. This allows you to maintain pressure on the cord, which helps to prevent the cord from bunching/bottle necking. (Please see video - coming soon).

Once the cord has been threaded through the slow match tube just remove the tape, burn the end of the cord to make char, gently pull the cord back down the tube so that the glowing ember end of the cord is 5 to 6mm beneath the opening of the tube, then place your finger over the mouth of the tube to extinguish the ember. The Slow Match is then safe to be placed in your Tinderbox, the charred end of the cord is protected and ready to use again when needed.
