An old school beautifully hand crafted, simple Leather Pouch. Once in a while we like to create something that is a little bit special.  We at Beaver Bushcraft are becoming more and well known for our old school style of leather work. We like to think of our work as timeless and that it captures that old pioneering spirit. This simple kit has an essence of old school fire lighting, comes with a choice of Fire Steels. The leather pouch has been kept very simple, its been hand crafted by us at Beaver Bushcraft. Its a handy size for popping in a rucksack but will alos fit into a standard sized pocket. This kit will be ideal for reenactors or for Bushcrafters wishing for a simple kit whilst out in the wilderness.

About Our Sulphur Spills:

The Sulphur Match has been use for thousands of years as a method for creating a fast and direct flame from a glowing ember, such as from a piece of Char Cloth without the need to go through the Tinder Bundle technique, which is so very smoky and only suitable for outdoor use. Since the sulphur in a Sulphur Match ignites at a temperature of around 440° Centigrade, by simply placing the tip of the Sulphur Match against the glowing ember, it will begin to melt and then it will ignite, thus it is suitable for making a direct flame in confined spaces. Caution, do not breath in the fumes as Sulphur has a rather unpleasant smell !!!  

Once alight, it will burn with a beautiful blue flame, which is not always easy to see, especially if there is a lot of ambient light, such as sunlight. However, if you are not able to see a flame, you can bet your bottom dollar that you will smell it, because when sulphur burn in air, it gives off pungent and suffocating fumes that will choke you if you breath them in; these fumes are sulphur dioxide. When the burning sulphur takes hold it will ignite the wooden spill, which can then be used to ignite a candle or fire etc.

Sulphur Matches are safe to use (however we do advise caustion when using due to the fumes and are not suitable for small children) and keep well in a traditional Tinderbox, or other container, since they cannot accidentally be ignited by friction. Sulphur Matches will only ignite when heated by a glowing ember or flame.

About Our Amadou. 

The ember that is created from the smouldering Amadou is VERY HOT, which makes it an outstanding tinder for ALL primitive fire making techniques such as in Flint & Steel.

This amazing tinder is ideally suited to be used with traditional Flint & Steel, modern Sparking Flints, Fire Pistons, and Solar Ignition, like Parabolic Reflectors or Magnifying lenses.  Once your Amadou  has caught a spark, it will begin to glow and gently smoke. This newly formed ember is very hard to extinguish since it burns so INCREDIBLY HOT. Any wind or breeze that blows on it will cause it to get even hotter! 

Once the ember has become established, to your satisfaction, you have more than ample time to place the Amadou ember into the centre of a previously prepared tinder bundle – and then blown into a flame. Whilst Amadou burns very hot it burns at a steady and slow pace; a small piece, about the size of your thumb nail will burn for a good minute or so, or you can create a direct flame in just a few seconds with one of our Traditional - Hand Cut - Sulphur Matches.
