The Tinder Teaser, (the DooDad), Multi-Fire Lighting Tool has been designed and made by Mark Hordon exclusively for us at Beaver Bushcraft. It was specifically designed to be used as a Traditional 'Flint & Steel' Fire Lighting tool, a striker for modern Ferrocerium Fire Steel Rods, it has a Hand & Bow Drill Bearing Block incorporarted in the design, as well as a Rasp/Saw Tooth edge for teasing tinder such as Jute, Amadou etc. and creating wood dust etc. for your Tinder Bundle.

• You will need to take care when handling this item due to sharp saw edge  It may cause injury if not used correctly. Take extra care if using this item as a bearing block.

The Tinder Teaser (DooDad) - Multi-Fire Lighting Tool is made from two layers of 4mm thick high carbon steel that are riveted together with two solid copper rivets. It measures approximately 90mm (long) x 37mm (wide) x 11mm (high, including the rivets), and whilst it may not the cutest tool in the box, it’ll probably be one of the most utilitarian and certainly one of the toughest!  This item has a very industrail patina due to the process used to make it. Designed to be used, absued and made to last!! 

Tinder-Teaser - Multi-Tool

The Tinder Teaser is fully functional multi tool that can be used as:

1) Traditional Flint & Steel fire lighter

2) Ferro Rod Striker and Magnesium Block Striker

3) Cutting  Scraping Tool & Tinder Rasp

4) Hand & Bow Drill Bearing Block

Heat Build-up

The overall size as well as its thickness has been carefully calculated to efficiently disperse heat when being used as a Hand & Bow Drill Bearing Block during friction fire lighting, however, it is still advised that some sort of lubricant, such as a green leaf or some grass, a little petroleum gel, grease or oil, or even a little spit etc. be used, to help reduce friction and therefore heat build-up being created whilst being used.

Traditional 'Flint & Steel' and Modern Ferro Rod Fire Lighting

The Tinder Teaser (dooDad) has been specifically designed, on one of its long edges, to have a shallow curved edge so that it can easily be used with a shard of natural Flint in the Traditional 'Flint & Steel' Fire Lighting technique. At one of the end of the tool there are two 90° ground scraping edges that are specifically used for Modern Ferro Rod Strikers. Whilst these two edges are sharp they, being ground to 90° sharp they cannot be used as a knife to actually cut things ... they are therefore what we can consider skin safe as 'twere). They can also be used as a wood and or magnesium scraper for creating fine shavings or dust.

This design is based on our very popular 'Fire Buddy', which was also designed by Mark Hordon, however it is made in-house exclusively by us.

Several years ago we had our popular 'Fire Buddy' tested by the Bushcraft Instructor, Jason Sears, at the Wilderness Gathering 2014 who gave it 10 out of 10; the Tinder Teaser - Multi-Fire Lighting Tool is made to the same exacting standards except that it is not outsourced but made by us instead.

Useful Tip: -

Since the Tinder Teaser (DooDad) Multi-Fire Lighting Tool is made from High Carbon Steel is will be prone to rusting, it should, therefore, be lightly oiled if not handled on a regular basis, or you might consider spray painting it with say black automotive spray paint after thoroughly cleaning the surface with acetone or alcohol.

Our Fire Steels have been specially designed to spark efficiently when using the correct striking technique, and that optimal spark generation can only really be achieved when using a new super sharp piece of flint, as well as some good quality, and dry tinder, such as Char Cloth, Amadou or Chaga.
