The Fire Dog multi tool is a 3- in-1 EDC survival tool made by those clever people at Beaver Bushcraft. Perfect as a traditional flint & steel striker, a ferro rod striker and as a bearing block. Made in the UK and designed exclusively by Mark Hordon for Beaver Bushcraft. It was specifically designed to be used as a Traditional 'Flint & Steel' Fire Lighting tool, a striker for modern Ferrocerium Fire Steel Rods and as a Hand & Bow Drill Bearing Block, the ends can also be used to scrape tinder such as Amadou, wood, magnesium etc. to create shavings and dust etc. for your Tinder Bundle.

Materials and Size

The Fire Dog;  '3-in-1 Multi-Fire Lighting Tool' is made from two layers of 4mm thick high carbon steel that are riveted together with two solid copper rivets. It measures approximately 65mm (long) x 25mm (wide) by 11mm (high including rivets), and whilst it may not the cutest tool in the box, it’ll probably be one of the most utilitarian and certainly one of the toughest! Does have an industrial patina due to the making process.

The Fire Dog is fully functional 3-in-1 multi tool that can be used as: 

1) Traditional Flint & Steel fire lighter 

2) Ferro Rod Striker and Tinder Scraper 

3) Hand & Bow Drill Bearing Block 

Traditional 'Flint & Steel' and Modern Ferro Rod Fire Lighting 

The longer edges are designed with a slight curve so that it can easily be used with a piece of sharp Flint for traditional 'Flint & Steel'.

Several years ago we had our popular 'Fire Buddy' tested by the Bushcraft Instructor, Jason Sears, at the Wilderness Gathering 2014 who gave it 10 out of 10; the Fire Dog - 3 in1 Multi-Fire Lighting Tool, is made to the same exacting standards except that it is not outsourced but made by us in the UK!!! 

Useful Tip: - Since the Fire Dog - '3 in1 Multi-Fire Lighting Tool' is made from High Carbon Steel it will be prone to rusting so we advise you lightly oil it if you are not handling it on a regular basis. This latest version has an industrail appearance, made to be used, abused & made to last!!!!

When using as a Flint & Steel striker, this multi tool has been specially designed to spark efficiently when using the correct striking technique, and that optimal spark generation can only really be achieved when using a new super sharp piece of flint, as well as some good quality, and dry tinder, such as Char Cloth, Amadou or Chaga.

Heat Build-up 

The overall size as well as its thickness has been carefully calculated to efficiently disperse heat when being used as a Hand & Bow Drill Bearing Block during friction fire lighting, however, it is still advised that some sort of lubricant, such as a green leaf or some grass, a little petroleum gel, grease or oil, or even a little spit etc. be used, to help reduce friction and therefore heat build-up being created whilst being used.
