A limited edition Hudson Bay Tinderbox with a beautifully hand cross stitched  vintage Leather  Pouch. Part of our range of vintage pre-loved tinderboxes by Beaver Bushcraft.

Once in a while we like to create something that is a little bit special. We have recently been collecting old Fire Steels, Tins and Tinderboxes for a new range of limited edition Fire Lighting Kits. Each tin will be different to each other as it will have its own unique patina. These tins will have an aged rustic patina, creating their own character. Perfect for re-enactors, bushcrafters, collectors or someone who wants something a little bit unique and maybe a possible heirloom for future generations.  We at Beaver Bushcraft are becoming more and well known for our old school style of leather work. We like to think of our work as timeless and that it captures that old pioneering spirit.

This special Limied Edition set includes a traditional 'viking' shaped Fire Steel, a full fire lighting kit and one of our specaily hand stitched, hand dyed pioneering Pouch made from vintage leather. The pouch has been hand cross stitched using an artificial sinew to give a real authentic rustic look. The handmade leather thong fastening is adjustable and hand tooled acorn detail. Together they make a little bit of history come back to life. The Tinder kit has been carefully selected to recapture the era but also to be practical. Although this is a limited edition piece is still designed to be used. The more you use it, the more loved it will look. Suitable for all Bushcrafters, budding Pioneers, re-enactors, LARPs enthusiasts, Cosplayers & anyone who loves making fire the traditional way.

This very popular tinderbox is an exact replica of the traditional Hudson Bay Tinderbox as used by the old-time early pioneers of Canada and America. These tough European settlers’ would have needed a fire lighting method that was reliable, robust and compact enough to be carried with them when weight was at a premium. The traditional Hudson Bay Tinderbox is a complete fire starting kit in one small compact and beautifully crafted unit and its ergonomic construction was designed for easy and reliable fire making.

Please note that this particular Hudson Bay Tinderbox is a pre-loved piece and has an aged patina etc. It is still in perefct working condition. Any patina, markings, age spots etc can be seen clearly in the photos. The photos have not been retouched in anyway. Sold as seen.

This Hudson Bay Tinderbox is completely rust proof, the heavy duty construction protects the fire lighting contents from loss or damage, it is small, and light, enough to be kept in a pocket, and is all that is required to make reliable fires in a traditional way. These beautifully made, high quality, reproduction tinderboxes have a friction-fit lid and a high quality 35mm (1 3/8”) 6x magnification, built-in, burning glass lens, which is mounted in the lid and protected by a lens cap. Each of these superb oval tinderboxes box measures approximately 112mm long by 80mm wide by 28mm deep, or 4-5/16 inches long by 3 inches wide by 1- 3/16 inches deep in old money and weigh in at around 85 grams or 3oz, without the fire starting kit, and approximately 150 grams or 5-1/3oz with the fire starting kit.

This great little kit enables the making of fires in almost any weather conditions; during sunny days sunlight would have been used to create the initial ember by focussing the sunlight, through, the burning lens onto the char cloth, Amadou or Jute thereby saving the Flint & Steel, both of which were valuable resources in those days. On cloudy days when the weather did not allow the use of the burning lens, the Flint & Steel would have been deftly used to create a fire in mere seconds. Even the Flint pieces are super sharp and have been knapped specially for us from Norfolk Flint. 

The traditional ‘Viking’ inspired Fire steel has been beautifully crafted by Beaver Bushcraft and made in the UK. Our own brand of Fire Steels are easy to use and produce a high quality spark when used with a piece of spark Flint.
