The Cotton Drawstring Pouch is made from natural Cotton and with our Beaver Bushcraft logo on one side. A simple drawstring design that is the ideal size for keeping your new Fire Steel safe and for popping into a larger Tinder pouch, pocket, survival kit or ruck sack etc. Measures approx 150mm x180mm. Makes a great little extra gift too.
The flint we use has been specially knapped for us to ensure each edge is ultra-sharp which is ideal for creating sharks when used with a traditional Fire Steel but can also be used with Ferrocerium Rods as a 'striker'. However we do advise caution when using our Flint, as it is incredibly sharp!
Sulphur Matches have been use for thousands of years as a method for creating a fast and direct flame from a glowing ember, such as from a piece of Char Cloth without the need to go through the Tinder Bundle technique, which is so very smoky and only suitable for outdoor use. Since the sulphur in a Sulphur Match ignites at a temperature of around 440 Centigrade, by simply placing the tip of the Sulphur Match against the glowing ember, it will begin to melt and then it will ignite, thus it is suitable for making a direct flame in confined spaces.
Once alight, it will burn with a beautiful blue flame, which is not always easy to see, especially if there is a lot of ambient light, such as sunlight. However, if you are not able to see a flame, you can bet your bottom dollar that you will smell it, because when sulphur burn in air, it gives off pungent and suffocating fumes that will choke you if you breath them in; these fumes are sulphur dioxide. When the burning sulphur takes hold it will ignite the wooden spill, which can then be used to ignite a candle or fire etc.
Sulphur Matches are safe to use, and keep well in a traditional Tinderbox, or other container, since they cannot accidentally be ignited by friction. Sulphur Matches will only ignite when heated by a glowing ember or flame.
Amadou is made from the Horse’s Hoof Fungus, which has a fine, velvety layer resembling suede leather. This suede-like trama layer is sandwiched between a tough nut-like, outer, layer called the Cuticle and the pores, which are thousands of tiny tubes all packed together. The Horse’s Hoof Fungus is mainly found on dead trees such as the Birch and Beech, and it resembles a horse’s hoof – hence its common name. Amadou is very hard to source, and even more difficult to make well. Just a note about Char Cloth, due to certain restrictions (smoke & fires have been banded locally) we can not make Char Cloth so we have temporary replaced this with Amdou Down which in our opion is even better than Char Cloth !
Amadou was used by our ancient forefathers because it makes excellent tinder able to catch even the vaguest of sparks; it is probably one of the best tinder that can be found in nature. It is has a beautiful velvet feel and is as resilient as suede leather and can be stored indefinitely. Amadou has been used for fire-making for thousands of years, and would have been found in virtually every traveller’s tinder box because of its great reliability.
2oz Tobacco Tin
These steel construction tins are just the right size to be comfortable in the hand, hold just the right amount of small items and because they have a rubber gasket in the lid, they are water and air tight (Resistant) and will therefore keep the items placed in them well protected and dry.
