It’s a perfect little EDC tool for your Fire Lighting Kits, Survival Tins,Tinder Pouches etc. This the ultimate EDC for fire making as this handy little tool does both Flint & Steel fire lighting and Ferro Rods. Made by Beaver Bushcraft in the UK, this a new updated version of our origanal Combo Striker that has been one of our best sellers for over ten years now. SECONDS: These particular versions are either ex dispaly stock or end of season. There are a few patina marks and surface scratches. This will not effect the overall performance of the product. The marks are purely cosmetic!

The Combo Fire Striker is the most modern, and reliable, means of striking sparks from any type of pyrophoric alloy Fire Flints, Swedish Fire Steels, Ferro Rods, on the market. Measuring just 62mm x 15 mm, they are safe to use and very hardwearing. When used with a  Ferro Rod you will be able to safely produce a shower of super hot sparks that reach temperatures of 3,100° Centigrade, which is 5,600° Fahrenheit. These super hot sparks are hot enough to ignite just about every kind of tinder that there is.  Please Note that any equipment shown in the photos are for display only. No flints or Tinders or ferro rods are included with this product. Tinders can be purchased indiviually via the drop down menus.

The Combo Fire Striker (85-1751-65) is made from high grade Carbon Steel, so it will have some surface oxidization and imperfections. However, this will not affect its performance or functionality.

Traditional 'Flint & Steel' Fire Lighting

Combo Fire Strikers have also been uniquely designed so that the curved main edge can be used for Traditional 'Flint & Steel' Fire Lighting when struck against a piece of  Natural and sharp Flint with a piece of Tinder, such as Char Cloth or Amadou, placed against the striking surfaces. This unique added bonus makes the Combo Fire Striker an essential piece of kit in Survival Tins . 

Ground Cutting Edge 

The ‘Combo Fire Striker' is made from high carbon-steel that has been specially hardened to give it an extremely long life span. It should last the average Bushcraft, Survival and Camping enthusiast for many years of trustworthy service. The ‘Combo Fire Striker' has been specially designed to maximise spark production with minimal effort and technique, making it ideal for use by everyone from absolute beginners to tried and tested Bushcraft Old-timers. 

The specially ground Combo Fire Striker's working edges can create a shower of superhot sparks with magical ease on any Ferrocerrium Fire Steel because each of the exposed flat surfaces has been specially ground to give very hard and very sharp 90-degree cutting-edges. The 90-degree ground angles ensures that each cutting edge is just about as tough and durable as a cutting edge can get, so it will easily strike off sparks from any modern pyrophoric alloy Flint Rod, Swedish Fire Steel etc.

When using as a Traditional 'Flint & Steel' Fire Lighting Striker:

Although the ‘Combination Ferro Rod and Traditional 'Flint & Steel' Striker’ was originally designed only to be used to strike sparks from a modern Ferro Rod a slight modification to the design allowed it to be used as a Traditional ‘Flint & Steel’ Fire Steel as well. When used with a piece of Natural Flint or Quartz the ‘Combination Ferro Rod and Traditional 'Flint & Steel' Striker’ will throw off a shower of sparks that can be used to create an ember on Char Cloth, Amadou or Chaga. This added bonus extends the range and usefulness of this great little combination Striker.

Cutting Edge Safety 

The normal code of practice, when using modern ferrocerium flint rods, is to strike off sparks from the surface of the flint rod by means of a sharp knife blade, piece of sharp flint or glass, or some other sharpened tool, since a cutting edge that is dull will not generate sparks. As a general rule of thumb, the sharper the cutting edge the easier it is to create sparks and the more of them that will be produced. These super little Combo Fire Strikers are much safer to use then the back of your knife like some hardened Bushcrafters do!!

However.......Now I know that this is little dramatic, but it should give everyone cause for concern, to consider that when sharp cutting tools are manoeuvred at a fast speeds, by human muscle, tendon and bone, especially if your hands are cold and you are tired at the end of a long hard day, the chances of causing yourself a serious cut, if your aim is slightly off, by striking a finger or your hand, instead of the ferrocerium rod with the sharpened cutting tool are quite high. Certainly, the shocking vision of an oozing measure of the red stuff dripping onto your feet, or worse still, your tinder, or tinder bundle, can be a hindrance to best performance and practice; the risk should therefore be kept to an absolute minimum.

Since all of the ‘Combo Fire Striker' cutting edges are ground to 90-degree angles, which is a cutting angle that is most suited to removing shards of pyrophoric alloy, yet the angle is much too large to be effective at removing slices skin. When using the Shark Tindebox - ‘Combo Fire Striker' the risk of personal accidents will dramatically decrease, whilst the chances of making a successful strike and obtaining an ember on the first strike will dramatically increase.
