The 'Beaver Creek' Leather  Tinderbox

This makes an ideal gift for someone wanting that heirloom piece. Beautifully hand crafted and made to last and most importanatly, made to be used! We have wanted to make one of these for a very long time now. Inspired by the traditional Hudson Bay tinderboxes, we wanted to make something that not only looks old school, is totally practical but looks and captures that essence of an era gone by. We wanted these to have that loved, old fashioned yet timeless appeal. This classic design captures the essence of an era gone by and if cared for, will last and last. These leather Tinderboxes have  a complete fire starting kit in one small compact and beautifully crafted unit and its ergonomic construction is designed for easy and reliable fire making.

The Hand Crafted Leather Tinderbox

Our leather Tinderboxes are all hand crafted and has our unique style incorporated in the details. The traditional Hudson Bays Tinderboxes are now quite hard to come by so with this in mind we created our very own ‘Beaver Creek’ tinderboxes capturing that old pioneering spirit. Made from vintage leather, softly wet moulded to keep a softer less boxy shape; we have then incorporated a high spec solar lens for using with the sun.  All our leather boxes have been hand stitched, hand dyed and made to our very high standard. Made from vintage leather so that they will all have their own slight chararcter, markings and patina.

The Built-in Solar Lens 

This beautifully made, hand stitched Solar lens has been cleverly built into the leather lid and then a leather thong with leather lens cap has been incorporated into the design. The solar lens is a good alternative to using a traditional Flint & Steel, for fire lighting, however, please note you do need some sun!!! Using the built-in 'burning' lens in the Leather Mount, focus the sun's rays onto a piece of Tinder such as Char Cloth or Amadou crust until it starts to smoulder, then place into your Tinder Bundle.  The lens is made from high spec glass and has a 100ml fl. The lens has a 40mm diameter.We usually try and keep some amadou under the lens to prevent scratching  from the flint or the fire steel.

• Amadou Tinder Fungus.
• Amadou Crust (use with lens).
• 3 x Pieces Jute Tinder  Rope.

• 2 x Bees Wax Candles.

We have tried to make our Beaver Creek  Tinderboxes as authentic as we can by offering a range of tinders that would probably been used around the time of the Pioneering era.  These leather Tinderboxes have a complete fire starting kit in one small compact and beautifully crafted unit and its ergonomic construction is  designed for easy and reliable fire making. The Flint (Norfolk Flint) we supply has been specially knapped with ultra sharp edges and designed specifically to fit into the Tinderboxes. We like to think we are offering a little piece of history with our Tinderboxes. Solar Fire Lighting 

This great little kit enables the making of fires in almost any weather conditions; during sunny days sunlight would have been used to create the initial ember by focussing the sunlight, through, the burning lens onto the char cloth, thereby saving the Flint & Steel, both of which were valuable resources in those days. On cloudy days when the weather did not allow the use of the burning lens, the Flint & Steel would have been deftly used to create a fire in mere seconds.
