Ninety-nine percent (99%), who try this challenge just won't have the skill to create an ember let alone a fire from our mini-fire steels! 

To spice things up a little, get the ball rolling and for a little bit of fun, we decided to tempt you all to take part in the ‘Challenge’ with a one off  Beaver Bushcraft £20 Gift Voucher for the winner – specifically the fastest combined timed, start to finish, production of an ember created with each of the four Mini-Fire Steels that has been videoed and to us by the 28^th February 2023! We will Rank and Score the best times on our web site,  Instagram & Facebook pages for all to see and be inspired by.

PLEASE NOTE: -

• The ‘Challenge’ prize closes at 23:59 on the 28^th February 2023. No entries after this point will be included in the prize ‘Challenge’ but will be included in the ‘Challenge’ Ranking Scores on our web site and media pages.
• The ‘Challenge’ is open to all age groups, male and female, on an equal footing, since we have seen youngsters, both girls and boys thrashing grown men and women, so we have confidence to no one will have an advantage over anyone else. 

There are four mini fire steels in this Mini Tinderbox.

1. The Mini ‘C’ Striker (top left), the largest. Maybe 10 % will succeed.
2. The Mini ‘Viking’ Striker (top right), we have given this a 5% chance.
3. the Mini-Mini ‘C’ Striker (centre right), now that will be only 3% of you that succeed.
4. The Mini-Mini ‘Viking’ Striker (bottom), is the tiniest fire steel we have ever produced, and with this fire steel we think only 1% of you will succeed.

We believe that this Mini Tinderbox kit will really test even the very best of you and will be all but impossible for the vast majority! However, if you are a ‘One Percenter’, you will probably be able to create spark from ANY fire steel in the world, and if you can’t then it simply is NOT a fire steel … period! 

What is the ‘Challenge’ Traditional Mini Flint & Steel Tinderbox?

The Mini Tinderbox kit is a fully functioning traditional Flint & Steel Tinderbox that is made from the very best materials to the highest spec, and because it is made by us you are guaranteed it is made to last a lifetime. Supplied with:

• Four of our finest Mini Fire Steels from our collection.
• Amadou Tinder: An Amadou disk and some Amadou Fluff.
• A choice selection of our very best smaller Flint Shards.
• A small nest of our best Jute Tinder.
• All contained in a 49mm Mini Stainless Steel tin.

Believe it or not, as much love, attention and skill has gone into the making of our tiny, mini fire steels as in our larger versions. Don’t let their small scale deceive you, they are just as hard to make, and finish, maybe even harder due to their diminutive size. All four fire steels, in the ‘Challenge’ Tinderbox kit, are made from the very best High Carbon Steel we can source. Each Fire Steel has been designed and hand-crafted by us, so that we can guarantee that they are made to the very highest standards … anywhere! They will not break if they are dropped, and are guaranteed, to produce showers of super-hot spark … Guaranteed! 

How it all happened:

The idea of this specialised Mini Flint & Steel Tinderbox kit was to set a very difficult ‘Challenge.’ A challenge that very few would succeed in conquering. No only because it has not been done before and is fun to do, but to allow the growth peoples’ skills in this very Traditional Flint & Steel way of making fire. We thought that it would be a fantastic way to separate the ‘Men from the Boys, and ‘Women from the Girls’, so to speak!

We surprised Mark, our Workshop Elf, General Dogs Body, and CEO, at his desk. And challenge him to put his money where his mouth was, so to speak. There were no rehearsals, he was filmed in real time, with no fancy editing, we just put him on the spot, as it were, with a camera, the Mini-Traditional Flint & Steel Tinderbox, complete with its four Mini Fire Steels, some Amadou and Amadou Fluff, a few small pieces of our best flint shards and nothing else.

So even if you are not up for the ‘challenge ‘it is still fully working Tinderbox.

The ‘Challenge’ Rules:

1. The ‘Challenge’ must be videoed without editing, and sent to us for verification.
2. There can be one video for each size Fire Steel in the ‘Challenge’ Traditional Flint & Steel Tinderbox kit.
3. No devices (e.g., pliers, vices, sticks etc., etc., etc.) can be used to hold the Flint and Steels. Hands and Fingers only please!
4. The use of the Amadou supplied in the Tinderbox is permitted only. A separate Ranking Score will be make if the ‘Challenge’ is made with Charcloth or any other form of tinder, since it is harder to create an ember with Amadou. NOTE: Both are legitimate and very good forms of Tinder, but we must draw the line somewhere!
